The Silent Rose

A night at the Stafford Inn, a quaint bed and breakfast in Connecticut, is a ghostly haunting that bestselling author, Devon James, will never forget.  A frightening vision calls to her…something terrible happened in the Inn, something that will change her life forever.  Nothing will keep Devon from finding the truth, not dark shadows of her past, nor the mysterious, dangerously handsome owner of the inn.  Not even the threat to her life.

Excerpt From The Silent Rose
“Do you have any idea how insane this all sounds?” Devon tipped her head back to look at him. “Believe me, I know” Alump began to form in her throat. She cared about Jonathan Stafford. She didn’t want him looking at her the way he was now.”Surely you can’t believe all of this.”

“If you want to know the truth, I’m not completely sure. I’m only certain I have to know, one way or the other.”

“Damn you.” Tears stung Devon’s eyes.

“I wish I’d never gone to that house, but I did. I can’t turn my back on this now. I can’t and I won’t.”

She looked into his handsome face and Jonathan seemed to read her troubled emotions. He saw the wetness on her cheeks and some of the hardness seeped from his features.

“I don’t believe for a moment that any of this is real. I hate the fact what you’re doing may wind up hurting my family.” He moved closer and the force of his gaze held her still. There was something different in his eyes now, something dark and unreadable.

“I know I’m going to have to stop you, that I should stay as far from you as I possibly can…” A dark, long-fingered hand slipped through her hair, cupped her head and tilted it back. “Then I look at you, watch the way you smile, listen to your laughter. In your eyes I see your worry, your concern, and all I can think of is how it might be to hold you…to kiss you.” His thumb moved back and forth along her jaw and Devon trembled.

“I don’t know how I’m going to stop you. But I can find the answer.” He bent his head and settled his mouth over hers, fitting their lips perfectly together, then he softened the kiss and drew her in.

Don’t do this! her mind screamed. You know what he’s after! But it made no difference.

From the moment Jonathan touched her, Devon was lost.

Special Commentary By Kat Martin
Though Devon’s story is fiction, the events that led me to write this actually occurred. There is indeed an inn in New England that resembles the Stafford Inn and while spending the night there, a number of bizarre incidents happened. They are detailed as accurately as a novel allows in the opening pages of this book. As a long time student of Parapsychology, it is my belief that anyone can experience psychic phenomena. Unlike my heroine, Devon James, most of us choose to ignore it. Sometimes fate intercedes, changing the course of events until we simply no longer can.
